Help! Squash Bugs
Suggestions?
I've tried Neem oil, Sevin, blasting with water. No help...they are destroying my zucchinis, and looks like they are going after my pole beans. Others have had probs as well. Some suggestions include hand-picking them, trap plants, marigolds, nasturiums, mint, etc. and some claim soapy water works, but NO CONSENSUS. Damn things |
Re: Help! Squash Bugs
Pyrethrin will kill them.

Re: Help! Squash Bugs
Will diatomaceous earth work? It is non toxic to humans.
Be sure to get the food grade DE, not the stuff in swimming pool filters. DYODD. |
Re: Help! Squash Bugs
DE, Thats what I'm trying for my cucumber beetles. they are on my cukes, and my squash..little pissers they are.
**the DE i'm using is food grade** not sure of the effectiveness as of yet. Only started with it last P.M. |

When you have a serious infestation of anything, best to treat initially with a good insecticide and then follow up with DE. I garden organically, so pyrethrins and BT and insecticidal soap are what I use for instant gratification. I'm considering taking a course at UGE in organic pest control this fall. Will see if I can get into it first before I tout their program. |
Re: Help! Squash Bugs
Also, use the above mentioned killers in the late evening or early morning as to not kill your beneficial insects & pollinators.
